Some tips for your WRITING TASK                     DEADLINE : 14th April 2020

A LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

TIPS:

• Write an outline with the points you are going to use in each of the paragraphs.
• 
  
• Do not use informal language. Use formal language.
• 
  
• Try to IMPACT on the reader, to call the reader's attention
• 
  
• Use formal structures ( INVERSION, PASSIVE VOICE, IMPERSONAL 'IT'...) and formal vocabulary.
• 
  
• Emphasise your opinions using formal expressions like  WHAT IS CLEAR...WHAT IS UNDENIABLE... I HAVE NO DOUBT... I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT

TOPIC: You have read an article in a local magazine about plans to redevelopma large, disused power station as a block of luxury flats. You feel there are far more imaginative uses for the building which would be of more benefit to the community.

Write a letter to the editor explaining your opinion.

TOPIC: You have read about plans to redevelop a riverside area and open-air swimming location into a luxury hotel. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper explaining why you are strongly against this proposal.
